Finding Christmas Spirit in Bali

I am really struggling to write a holiday post from Bali. What holiday is it again? My husband is still away at work in Sumatra. There have been no carols playing in the stores, no Christmas trees, no chilly bite in the air, no egg nog or pumpkin pie. No cuddling by the fire, watching It’s a Wonderful Life. Yet it is, undeniably, a wonderful life.

This year, instead of getting together with family, the kids and I headed over to celebrate with friends. As I sipped cold champagne and the kids swam in the pool, I was able to refresh my perspective enough to see there were a few things I wasn’t missing. No mad rush about town, trying to pick out the perfect gifts for a dozen or more people, no extra guilt (or pounds) from eating that third helping of dessert.

And I was left to examine for myself what is most important about Christmas: remembering another family that found itself away from home, in a strange place, given an unexpected gift full of promise. And suddenly it felt more like Christmas than ever before.

Hello Rachel. Remember the Christmas in Mexico? So it’s not your first no nog nor tree Christmas.

Looks like you have a wealth of interesting
talent at the Branding Salon. We wish you good luck and much success. We are taking down the Christmas decorations today; looking forward to Spring and gardening. We will be in Mendocino 1/7 or 1/8 for a couple weeks.

We love and miss you and the boys. M&D
