Paris: The Eiffel Tower Wears Bleu

Am writing this after we have turned the corner on the shortest day and longest night of the year—not a moment too soon for a Californian in Paris. I was missing that Halloween-to-mid-January American Christmas season when my friend Larry, who visited Paris with his lovely daughter Sarah a few weeks ago, came to the rescue and turned me on to a collection of jazzy Bing, Nat, Ella… plus multiple versions of “Baby It’s Cold Outside”. Cold it was indeed, snowflakes falling the night the three of us met for comfort food in a Paris brasserie near the Pompidou—soupe à l’oignon, roast chicken and frites with live jazz. Thanks to Judy Marks for the connection!
Living in Paris I have made some great new friends, ironically from my former hometown. We never met until they planned a trip to Paris and a mutual friend passed on my Paris number.
This year has been a busy and happy one. The global lifestyle is really falling into place, thanks to free international phone calls from my hi-speed Internet provider, free.fr; Skype, better and better versions of Ubuntu and, most importantly, enriching personal relationships.
Photos from 2008: it was another cool summer and short fall in France. When the time came for my annual November photo walks in Bois de Vincennes and Parc de Sceaux the leaves were already off the trees and winter was upon us.
There were gray skies for weeks on end. Midwinter came to the rescue, scintillating with the city of Paris dressing up for the holidays, adorned with lights like bijoux. The Eiffel Tower wore bleu.
Happy Holidays 2008-2009

A slightly poetical accent that reminds me the delicate and profund style of Diana Krall words in her “Departure Bay”. And what a good framing in the shots !

Julie- You’ve sent a touch of winter magic from Paris through your words and photos. The Eiffel Tower looks elegant. I hear that the color represents France’s term of leadership in the EU– which will end in a few days.
Tell us, show us what color the Tower wears next!
Happy new year, and happy birthday too!
