Food Prose

Branding Salon’s Jude the Foodie checking in (aka Food Prose marketing). One of my passions has been to promote Mendocino’s outstanding chefs and restaurants, one in particular. MacCallum House Inn & Restaurant (on our client list) has an exec chef, Alan Kantor, with whom I have been working for eons. (Anyone familiar with restaurants probably knows an eon in chef terms is around two years. They DO move around.) But Alan has stayed put for around thirty years now and is as wild about cooking and organics and sustainability as he ever was and the country has finally caught up.  For a long time, diners would tell us in one way or another eating at the Mac was like being where you hoped the future of dining was headed  He’s a joy to talk food with and we seldom tire of it, although there are those days when both of us want to do just about anything else and just curl up with a pb&j and a trashy book (me) or a black bean quesadilla and a ride on his vintage motorcyle (Alan).

We research new products for the menus, work them out together and send them on to Branding Salon’s Shona to make them pretty. mushroom_winemaker07_1up_menu

We plan special events, too, and are about to create a menu for the annual Wild & Exotic Mushroom Winemaker Dinner that sells out every year. I’ll be blogging about that in the near future as the season is upon us. There is almost nothing as fun as foraging in our own local woods for edible treasures like chanterelles, porcini and hedgehogs!

In the meantime check out the chef and his menus here: http://www.maccallumhouse.com/pages/restaurant/default.html
